Day 1. Tue: Launceston, Freedom of Choice Touring, Welcome Dinner

On arrival into Launceston be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Then join your selected Freedom of Choice Touring activity - choose to visit either Platypus House, Seahorse World or the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers at a Welcome Drinks and Dinner. Stay: Launceston, Hotel Grand Chancellor (D)

Day 2. Wed: Bicheno, Freycinet National Park

In lavender flowering season (Dec.-Jan.), visit Bridestowe Lavender Farm to admire the purple-hued fields. Continue to Bicheno and East Coast Natureworld to learn about Australia’s native animals, and see Delilah the Tasmanian Devil. In Freycinet National Park, walk along Cape Tourville, admiring the stunning east coast scenery. Later, arrive at Freycinet Lodge, where tonight you will enjoy a gourmet barbeque on the deck overlooking magnificent Coles Bay. Day 3. Thu: Freycinet National Park, Freedom of Choice Touring, Port Arthur, Crayfeast

This morning you have the choice of several Freedom of Choice touring activities. Exclusive to APT, perhaps cruise to Wineglass Bay and sample some of Tasmania’s finest cheeses and sparkling wine served at anchor. Alternatively, you might like to take a walk through native bushland to a stunning viewpoint overlooking Wineglass Bay; join a Bluestone Bay 4WD tour; or experience the beauty of Freycinet from a sea kayak. Later, travel through Swansea to the historic town of Richmond to see the convict-built bridge, then continue to Port Arthur. This evening savour the flavours of a Tasmanian speciality - a delicious crayfish dinner. Stay: Port Arthur, Comfort Inn - the only hotel  in the historic site overlooking the ruins. (BD)

Day 4. Fri: Port Arthur Historic Site, Hobart, Dine Around Dinner

Today enjoy a full day at Port Arthur Historic Site. Witness the penal colony ruins, explore the chilling prison facilities and cruise on Mason Cove around the Isle of the Dead. Take the opportunity to play the ‘Lottery of Life’ game or stroll around the colourful gardens. After an exciting day of discovery, continue to Hobart where tonight you have the opportunity to choose your dining experience. Perhaps sample mouth-watering cuisine at Restaurant Tasman, enjoy the nautical atmosphere of The Drunken Admiral, or dine on Spanish-influenced cuisine at Sisco’s on the Pier. Day 5. Sat: Salamanca Market, Freedom of Choice Touring

Enjoy free time to discover Hobart’s renowned Salamanca Market a bustling Saturday. With its nineteenth century sandstone village backdrop, wander through the over three hundred stalls featuring local produce, arts and crafts. Today you also have a range of Freedom of Choice Touring activities to choose from. Perhaps join a guided walking tour of Hobart, or walk among the tree tops on the Tahune AirWalk. Alternatively you might like to enjoy a traditional afternoon high tea at historic Hadley’s Hotel or paddle past the sights of Hobart in a sea kayak. (B)

Day 6. Sun: Russell Falls, World Heritage Lake St Clair, West Coast Wilderness Railway

Follow the Derwent Valley to Mt Field National Park, where a short walk brings us to stunning Russell Falls. Stroll through a mixed rainforest of swamp gums, dogwood, musk and myrtle. From here, enter the awe-inspiring forests of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area to Lake St Clair. Admire views of the nation’s deepest lake before continuing to Queenstown. Join the restored West Coast Wilderness Railway for a ride through the forest. Tonight, enjoy views over Strahan’s beautiful harbour while savouring a delicious buffet meal. Day 7. Mon: World Heritage Wilderness, Gordon River Cruise, Dine Around Dinner

Explore breathtaking World Heritage wilderness aboard the Lady Jane Franklin II. Cruise along the mighty Gordon River with guaranteed window seating and enjoy a buffet lunch. Stop at Heritage Landing for a walk through ancient rainforest and a visit to the penal colony of Sarah Island. In the afternoon, return to Strahan and take your time exploring this picturesque town. Tonight, choose to dine at either View 42º, Hamers Hotel or The Fish Café, then perhaps take in a local pantomime based on a convict’s escape from Sarah Island (own expense). (BLD)

Day 8. Tue: Dove Lake, Cradle Mountain, Freedom of Choice Touring

Journey to Cradle Mountain and explore Dove Lake with a local guide. View the jagged contours of Cradle Mountain and visit Waldheim Chalet, a forest home built in 1912. This afternoon, perhaps sample Tasmania’s finest wines and cheeses; take a guided Enchanted Walk; join a Night Wildlife Spotlight Tour in search of native animals (limited availability); pick up a Gourmet Picnic Hamper to enjoy in the magnificent surrounds of the national park; or pamper yourself at the Waldheim Alpine Spa. Day 9. Wed: The Nut, Woolnorth, Cape Grim, Smithton

Visit the far north-west reaches of Tasmania and see The Nut at Stanley. Tour Woolnorth, the state’s largest wind farm, perched high on the windswept cliffs of a rugged but majestic coastline. At nearby Cape Grim, breathe in the cleanest air in the world, then arrive at the dairy and vegetable growing area of Smithton. Stay: Smithton, Tall Timbers Hotel (BD)

Day 10. Thu: Sheffield Murals, Ashgrove Cheese Factory, Woolmers Estate

Explore Devonport, one of the oceanic gateways to Tasmania, then continue on to Sheffield, a quaint town where over 30 murals have been painted on the building walls. This afternoon, sample handmade cheeses at Ashgrove Cheese Factory, then continue to historic Woolmers Estate where you will enjoy a guided tour and a stroll through the National Rose Garden.Two Night Stay: Launceston, Hotel Grand Chancellor, in the city centre (B)

Day 11. Fri: Historic Ross, Launceston, Farewell Drinks and Dinner

Travel around the Great Lake, Australia’s second largest freshwater lake, used for hydro-electricity production. Your journey will also take you over the Great Western Tiers to the quaint heritage township of Ross. Here, view the famous historical bridge, built by convicts and featuring more than 180 unique hand carvings, and take some time to explore the colonial township. On return to Launceston later this afternoon, spend your last evening with your fellow travellers and Tour Director at a Farewell Dinner and Drinks. Throughout the evening you’ll also enjoy a presentation from the chef about the culinary secrets used in the preparation of the meal. (BD)

Day 12. Sat: Launceston, Cataract Gorge

Take some time to explore Cataract Gorge, a unique natural rock formation, before your tour concludes with an included airport transfer. (B)

Terms and Conditions

This general information relates to Australian Pacific Touring Pty. Ltd., herein after referred to as ‘The Company’.

Fares, Booking Confirmations

A $200 security deposit per person, per tour and the balance of any airfares booked by The Company is required within 7 days of booking. Some seasonal special offers may require an additional deposit, which will be advised at time of reservation. Balance is required 6 weeks before departure (tours including rail travel 60 days prior). Where connecting air, rail or boat travel is included, confirm correct fare at time of paying balance. All fares quoted are in Australian currency and supersede all prices previously advertised. Stated duration counts day of departure and day of return. Twin share prices are per person unless otherwise stated. The Company reserves the right to cancel any ticket or booking or refuse to carry any passenger where payment has not been received by The Company within the specified time. Prices include Australian Government Goods and Services Tax (where applicable).
Discounts: Past passenger discounts may be combined with some other discounts. Please ask at the time of booking. Group concessions for 10 or more adults are available on application. Past passenger discounts are not applicable for groups of 10 adults or more.

Children under 15: When sharing with one adult 20% off adult coach fare plus relevant child rail/air/boat fare. Children under 7 years of age are not recommended to participate in an escorted coach tour. Children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Concession fares: Apply to Australian and New Zealand pensioners and Australian Seniors Card Holders. Refer to fare tables for relevant discounts. For tours including rail or boat travel, relevant concessions only available where Australian Department of Social Security Concession Card is produced. Further discount may apply to free rail pass holder. Discounts can’t be added or combined.

16-41 lose 20% of fare
1-15 lose 50% of fare
If tour has commenced, no refund of fare or unused portion.

Indemnities

The involvement of airlines, rail, boat or any other relevant operator is as air, rail, sea and road carriers only. They shall not be responsible for statements in this publication relating to the transport arrangements. The Company shall indemnify these operators against any claim action, loss or damage arising therefrom.

Luggage Limit

Each passenger is entitled to take one case, the sum of its length, width and depth not to exceed 160 cm (63 inches), weight limit 20 kilos (44 lbs.) Airlines permit only 1 cabin bag per person, in which personal items such as cameras, make-up etc. should be carried. Over-limit luggage cannot be carried. Baggage is at ‘owners risk’.

Important Information Exclusion of Liability

1. Whilst The Company will take all reasonable steps to provide an enjoyable tour, it accepts no liability for any loss of enjoyment experienced by passengers due to circumstances beyond its control. The Company further accepts no liability for any loss beyond its reasonable control and provides no warranties in addition to those set out under the Trade Practices Act 1974, and nothing herein restricts any passenger from exercising their rights and remedies pursuant to law.
2. Your travel agent will forward booking confirmations and other payments to us on your behalf, but your travel agent is not our agent for the purpose of receipt of monies. Receipt of booking confirmations and subsequent payments by the travel agent does not constitute receipt of those monies by us and the travel agent has no authority expressed or implied to receive monies on our behalf. There is no liability on the part of The Company in respect to any monies paid to the passenger’s travel agent unless and until The Company notifies the passenger (by way of a booking confirmation advice or payment receipt advice) that monies have been received by The Company.
3. The optional tour excursions are not operated by or at the direction or on behalf of The Company or its employees or agents or any other persons or companies associated with The Company. By taking bookings for these tours, The Company acts as each optional tour operator’s agent.
4. These tours include the services of operators other than The Company e.g. hoteliers, airlines and optional tour excursions, which are not under the direct control of The Company, and whilst The Company takes all reasonable care in selecting these operators, it cannot accept responsibility for those operators’ conduct or the conduct of their representative employees or agents or for any ramifications of that conduct.
5. On tours including activities such as trekking, swimming and snorkelling, passengers accept that degrees of risk are involved.
6. No passenger will be permitted to embark or continue on tour while their mental or physical condition is, in the opinion of any representative of The Company, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or whereby they become objectionable to other passengers, or they become a hazard to themselves or other passengers. The Company will not be responsible for expenses resulting in such persons being precluded from completing the tour.

Amendment Fees

A charge of $25 will apply to any addition or modification requested after the original booking has been confirmed.

Itineraries

Itineraries are subject to alteration without notice and intended as a guide only. Alterations may come about due to road, weather or tidal conditions, strikes, public holidays, local festivals or other reasons. Due to the nature of the terrain and remote areas, weather fluctuations can adversely affect road conditions which may necessitate alterations to itinerary with little or no notice. Any additional expense incurred by the passenger is not The Company’s responsibility. The Company can give no guarantee as to the exact arrival and departure times for carriers and operators used by The Company in the tour and The Company will not be liable for failure to make connections with any other services or attractions beyond its control. ‘Freedom of Choice Touring™’, Dine Around Dinners™ and ‘Freedom of Choice Dining™’ are booked by the Tour Director whilst on tour. They are subject to availability, seasonal and operational factors. As is normally the case with group tours, a minimum number of bookings is required in order for a tour to be financially viable and to have a pleasant group atmosphere. In the event that adequate numbers cannot be achieved, it may be necessary to cancel a scheduled departure and to offer the nearest possible alternative date (or a full refund of monies paid for APT ground content touring). The date on which the decision is made whether a tour will operate is usually four to eight weeks before the scheduled departure date. Dine Around Dinners™ – APT reserves the right to change restaurants should circumstances warrant.

Smoking

Government regulations forbid smoking in tourist coaches, however frequent stops are made for those wishing to smoke. Smoking is not permitted in twin share ‘matched’ rooms. Requests for smoking/non smoking rooms will be passed on to hotels but cannot be guaranteed.

Seat Allocation on Coach Tours

To ensure all passengers enjoy forward and window facing seats, we have incorporated a daily seat rotation system.

Money Back Guarantee

If a problem occurs during your tour, then in your own best interests, you should advise your Tour Director so that steps can be taken to resolve the matter there and then. If you remain dissatisfied, any complaint must be made in writing to us within 30 days. Any service not supplied will be refunded in full.

Transfer Policy

On the first and final day of your tour we’ll provide a free airport transfer. When you book pre-tour accommodation with us in the city the tour departs from, we’ll provide a transfer from the airport on the day you arrive, and a hotel transfer on the first day of your tour.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend passengers to take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances which may arise (including cancellation fees, medical and curtailment expenses, loss of luggage, early departure from tour due to death or illness etc.). Ask your Travel Agent for details at the time of booking.
