Day 1. Tue 24 Aug: Mackay to Charters Towers

Departing Mackay at 8.00 am with morning tea at Lake Elphinstone. We lunch at the old Mt Coolan Hotel with it history of the early copper & gold mining days. Then to our accommodation at Charters Towers Park Motel with nibbles & champers with the Ghosts after Dark Theatre prior to dinner. Overnight: Charters Towers (LD) Please ask if you wish to travel to Mackay by train from Brisbane

Day 2. Wed 25 Aug: Hughenden, Richmond

Departing Charters Towers 8.00am stopping at White Mountains National Park. Then onto Torrens Creek Hotel for morning tea, Hughenden & The Flinders Discovery Centre  & the Porcupine Gorge Light & Sound show. Lunch at the FJ Holden Café. On to Richmond and the Kronosaurus Korner Fossil Display. Overnight: Richmond Ammonite Inn (BLD)  

Day 3. Thu 26 Aug: Julia Creek, Cloncurry & Mt Isa

Departing Richmond at 7.30 am for morning tea at the Proa Redclaw Farm then a brief tour of Julia Creek & lunch. Then onto Cloncurry for a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum & Mary Kathleen Memorial Park. Then off to our accommodation at the Mt Isa. Overnight: Mt Isa (BLD)      

Day 4. Fri 27 Aug: Mt Isa

Departing 8.30am for the Mt Isa Tour visiting the underground mine experience with lunch under ground with the miners. Then we have some time shopping. Overnight: Mt Isa (BLD)

Day 5. Sat 28 Aug: Adels Grove

Departing at 8.00am we start our trip to the Gulf for morning tea, stopping at the Burke & Wills Roadhouse, then onto Gregory River Hotel on the banks of the Gregory River for lunch and a swim if so desired. Overnight: Adels Grove (BLD)

Day 6. Sun 29 Aug: Lawn Hill, Burketown 

Departing at 8.00am for Lawn Hill National Park for our walk and morning tea then onto Burketown via Adels Grove for lunch. Tonight we take over Burketown as we will book out all their accommodation and we will be staying at 2 different places - the Burketown Cabins  & the Savannah Lodge with dinner tonight with the locals at the Burketown Hotel. Overnight: Burketown (BLD)

Day 7. Mon 30 Aug: Normanton, Karumba

Departing Burketown at 8.00am for morning tea at Leichhardt Falls, then onto Normanton for lunch. After this we have a historic drive around Normanton and visit the old Burns Phillip store & museum before going to Karumba for a 2-night stay at the End of the Road Motel. Overnight: Karumba (BLD)  

Day 8. Tue 31 Aug: Karumba

Today we do the Crab and Croc Cruise.  Enjoy catching crabs and then feasting on them & prawns! Also great croc viewing along the river. Overnight: Karumba (BLD)  

Day 9. Wed 1 Sep: Gulflander Train, Georgetown, Undara

Departing Karumba 7.00am for Normanton for your ride on the Gulflander Train to Critter Siding then coach to Blackbull for morning tea. Lunch will be had at Lake Belmore then onto Georgetown for a tour of the Terrestrial Centre. Overnight: Undara (BLD)  

Day 10. Thu 2 Sep: Undara Lava Tubes, Mt Surprise

Today we start at Stoney Creek Station to see a working cattle dog demonstration. We then head off to Undara National Park for morning tea after which its a short drive to the Spectacular Undara Lava Tubes where we will do the arch tour which encompasses two lava tubes. We lunch on the beautiful river where you may have an invigorating swim before heading back to our accommodation at Bedrock. Overnight: Mt Surprise (BLD)  

Day 11. Fri 3 Sep: Townsville

Departing Bedrock 8.00am for the Three Rivers Pub at Greenvale for morning tea then onto Harvey’s Range Tea Rooms for lunch. Down the hill we go for a short tour of the Stand then up to the top of Castle Hill. Overnight: Townsville (BLD)    

Day 12. Sat 4 Sep: Return to Mackay

Departing our motel at 8.00 am this morning we will visit the Reef HQ with morning tea provided, then onto lunch at Bowen at the 360-summit restaurant over looking the northern Whitsundays. Arriving home at 4.30 pm. (L) Please ask if you wish to travel to Brisbane by train from Mackay
