Day 1. Tue: Spirit of the Outback

Board the ‘Spirit of the Outback’ for a scheduled departure of 6.25pm. Check-in to your 1st Class sleeper for your journey through the Central West. Enjoy cosy dining in the themed Tuckerbox Restaurant, and a quiet drink and chat with your fellow travellers in the club and lounge cars. (D)

Day 2. Wed: Arrive Longreach

You will be met on arrival in Longreach by your Coach Captain then transferred to your motel for dinner and briefing. Overnight: Longreach. (BLD)

Day 3. Thu: Cloncurry

Depart Longreach for Cloncurry visiting the famous Blue Heeler Hotel and the Crocodile Dundee Walkabout Creek Hotel. We also explore the John Flynn Memorial before overnighting in Cloncurry. Overnight: Cloncurry (BLD)

Day 4. Fri: Gulflander - Karumba

Travelling north, via Burke & Wills Roadhouse, we cross the Flinders River to rendezvous with the famous Gulflander rail journey. Board the old ‘Tin Hare’ at Critters Camp for a journey through the Gulf Savannah bushland. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the Lily Lagoon then travel to Normanton Railway Station Museum. Discover the Big Crocodile and Purple Pub, before continuing on to Karumba for a “fisherman’s catch” dinner, over-looking the Gulf of Carpentaria. Overnight: Karumba. (BLD)

Day 5. Sat: Karumba 

Today we visit the Barramundi Discovery Centre before we spend the afternoon on the ‘Croc and Crab’ port of Karumba cruise. End your day with the ultimate seafood at sunset experience aboard the ‘Croc and Crab’. Overnight: Karumba. (BLD)

 

*Optional extra Fishing Trip - Get hooked on a great half day fishing trip and try your luck and catch Barramundi, Gulf Salmon and more (Please enquire regarding additional costs and availability at time of booking). 
 

Day 6. Sun: Cobbold Gorge

Departing Karumba we visit the gold mining heritage town of Croydon, then travel east to Georgetown’s Terrestrial Centre, featuring the Elliott Mineral Collection. Travel on to Cobbold Gorge for a two night stay. Overnight: Cobbold Gorge. (BLD)

Day 7. Mon: Cobbold Gorge

Experience an unforgettable morning cruise in Cobbold gorge. Visit Corbett’s Pioneer Grave and take an escarpment walk to enjoy breathtaking gorge views and spot fresh water crocodiles. The afternoon features a station tour amongst incredible geology and operational challenges. Overnight: Cobbold Gorge. (BLD)

Day 8. Tue: Savannahlander - Mt Surprise

Travel to Forsayth and embark on the Savannahlander for the most scenic section of this whole rail journey. Explore the Copperfield Gorge and lunch at Einasleigh. Overnight: Bedrock Village, Mt Surprise (BLD)

Day 9. Wed: Undara Lava Tubes

Today meet some of the local characters at Rocky Springs Cattle Station. Explore the Undara Lava Tubes, one of the longest lava flows in the world, prior to lunch in an amazing bush setting. Fun farewell awards dinner and campfire sing-along. Overnight: Bedrock Village. (BLD)

Day 10. Thu: Townsville - The Sunlander

Travel to Greenvale, famous for its old Nickel Mine and Slim Dusty’s song. Enjoy lunch at Harvey’s Range before heading down to Townsville for your mid afternoon departure on The Sunlander (dinner own expense). Overnight: The Sunlander (BL)

Day 11. Fri: Arrive Brisbane

Arrive Brisbane at approx 3.55pm via the Sunlander Rail Journey after the most amazing contrasts that you could ever imagine at the most enjoyable pace. 

 

N.B. Due to inclement weather conditions and road access in this isolated area, it is compulsory that travel insurance is taken out to cover travel delay expenses in the event of unforeseen delays as last minute changes are possible by the operator at short notice.

 

***VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION***

Some accommodation is shared facilities and is split over multiple accommodation venues.  Luggage is restricted to soft baggage of 15kg per person due to specialised Coaches on tour.  Excellent washing facilities are available on tour with 3 two night stays.
