![]() Day 1. Arrive DarwinOn arrival in Darwin you will be transferred to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a tour of the tropical city of Darwin. See the mixture of old and new building styles including the old Government House and the new Northern Territory Parliament building. Visit the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Drive through the Botanic Gardens to East Point Reserve and view remnants of the World War II defence of Australia. Tonight enjoy a welcome drink with your Tour Director and fellow travellers. Stay: Travelodge Mirambeena Resort, Darwin (D) Day 2. Katherine GorgeBid farewell to the Northern Capital and head south along the Stuart Highway towards Katherine. Stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a site dedicated to the World War II air raids on Darwin. In Nitmiluk National Park, cruise the placid waters of the Katherine River through the towering cliffs of two gorges. Stay: Paraway Motel, Katherine (BD) Day 3. Ord River CruiseTravel via Timber Creek and Victoria River Station across vast cattle stations into Western Australia. Visit the historic Durack Homestead then travel to Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake. Cruise on the Ord River to Kununurra. Stay: Lakeside Resort, Kununurra (3 nights) (BD) Day 4. Kununurra – 5 Rivers LookoutSee the Ord River Irrigation Scheme, Hidden Valley National Park and visit Kelly’s Knob Lookout. This afternoon travel to Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve. See the bird life of this region and learn about traditional lifestyles. Continue to Wyndham to the 5 Rivers Lookout. (BD) Day 5. El Questro Wilderness ParkThis morning we briefly traverse the Gibb River Road on the way to El Questro Station. Cruise through Chamberlain Gorge, abounded by tropical vegetation. You will have some free time in this serene Wilderness Park. (BD) Day 6. Argyle Diamond MineToday visit the Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine, the world’s largest diamond mine, which produces one quarter of the world’s diamonds annually. Continue south to the historic town of Halls Creek. Situated on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert, it is at the doorstop to the majestic World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park. Stay: Best Western Motel, Halls Creek (BLD) Day 7. Geikie GorgeTravel through the remote township of Fitzroy Crossing. We enjoy a cruise through spectacular Geikie Gorge, which has been formed by the waters of the Fitzroy River tunnelling through the Napier Range. Watch for wildlife as the 30 metre high walls of the gorge tower above us. Be sure to look out for crocodiles and sawfish. Continue to the coastal town of Derby. Stay: Fitzroy River Safari Cabins, Derby (BD) Day 8. Derby – BroomeTravel to the port of Derby and see the famous Boab Prison Tree, before continuing to the pearling centre of Broome. See Chinatown and Streeters Jetty. Stay: Mercure Inn Continental (2 nights) (B) Day 9. Broome 'Free Time'Enjoy a day at leisure exploring this tropical hideaway. Directly opposite the hotel is Cable Beach, 22km of white sand. Perhaps take an optional camel ride along Cable Beach. Broome is situated on the North West coast of Western Australia, and until the mid 1980s was only accessible by a dirt road. On a narrow peninsula surrounded by the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and Roebuck Bay, and recognised as a world class migratory bird stopover. (B) Day 10.
